In and Around the Gold Coast Hinterland
The second most populous city in the state and ranking sixth in the country, Gold Coast are renowned for its sunny subtropical climate, surfing beaches, expansive waterway and canal systems, high-rise apartment buildings that dominated its skyline and active nightlife for surfers. It is situated in the southeast corner of Queensland, to the south of Brisbane which is the state capital.
The city is bordered by a part of the Great Dividing Range or Gold Coast Hinterland. An area that is popular among bush walkers and day-trippers, Gold Coast Hinterland has a 206 square kilometer section of the mountain range that is protected by the Lamington National Park. It is listed as World Heritage are for its outstanding geological features that is displayed around the high number of rare and threatened rainforest species and shield volcanic craters.
