Get in Touch with nature in New Zealand
A holiday in New Zealand is the ultimate getting in touch with nature trip. The isolated North and South Islands of New Zealand are endowed with magnificent landscapes, gorgeous bodies of water, amazing sights, perfect climate, and exotic flora and fauna.
A great way of experiencing all of the natural blessings of New Zealand is to visit their National Parks. New Zealand is teeming with these wilderness areas, with 14 National Parks scattered all over the North Island and South Island. These National Parks are included in the list of top must see places and tourist destinations in New Zealand. Those that you must visit are Fiordland National Park, Abel Tasman National Park, and Westland Tai Poutini National Park.
Let’s begin with Fiordland National Park. This National Park, located in the southwestern region of New Zealand’s South Island, is the largest in the entire world. This remote National Park was established in 1952 and can be mainly accessed through the town of Te Anau. Cascading waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, and vibrant rainforests fill the area of this vast and extensive park. Two of the most beautiful and most visited sceneries, Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound, are located in and can be viewed from Fiordland National Park. Those who love to go trekking and walking can do so on Fiordland National Park’s Milford track, which is dubbed as the “Finest Walk in the World”.
Abel Tasman National Park, in contrast with Fiordland, is the smallest National Park in New Zealand. Its relatively small coverage of just 22, 530 hectares is packed with its own attractions such as golden sandy beaches and granite cliffs coupled with a lush green rainforest. Abel Tasman National Park’s location at the topmost area of New Zealand’s South Island gives it a fantastic view of the Tasman Sea. The Abel Tasman Coast track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. Travelers can go hiking on this track and enjoy beautiful views of Abel Tasman’s beaches and coastlines.
The Westland Tai Poutini National Park was established in 1960 and has been given World Heritage status. It extends from the Southern Alps all the way to the West Coast beaches thereby giving it a wide range of landscapes and sceneries. The Westland Tai Poutini National Park is world famous for the twin glaciers, namely the Franz Josef glacier and the Fox glacier. Visitors can scale these glaciers and may also do some mountaineering and skiing in Westland Tai Poutini National Park.
